Western Washington 2008-2009 seminar PRE-REGISTRATION

Credit hours for each class will be applied for through wsda

All reservations, payments and correspondence are to be directed to Tim Baker, WSPMA Executive Officer. The contact information can be found on this letterhead.
Reservations are not considered confirmed until a check has been received or a credit card number has been verified.
Checks must be payable to WSPMA. Credit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard (preferred) or American Express.
Reservation payments are non-refundable.
If classes are filled to capacity (occupancy limits of 88 people), “Walk-ins” may not be allowed. To secure a seat, it is recommended you make advance arrangements.

To receive a discount on class fees, WHERE APPLICABLE, payment must be received by 10/8/08

QUARTERLY MEETING & TRIBUTE TO DR. LAUREL HANSEN

The morning session will begin with the WSPMA business meeting & tribute.
In addition, Dr. Hansen will present us with an ant update, followed by Dr. John Klotz, from The University of California, Riverside, speaking on odorous house ants and argentine ants. Two (2) CEU’s will be applied for. Lunch will be provided.

FLEAS, TICKS & EKBOM SYNDROME

Featured Speaker: Dr. Nancy Hinkle,
Professor from the University of Georgia
Dr. Hinkle will share her latest research and the changes our industry is seeing with fleas & ticks. She will also be speaking on Ekbom Syndrome, also referred to as Delusory Parasitosis. This medical condition is a neurological disorder causing a crawling, itching skin sensation to occur. Dr Hinkle has helpful information on how to recognize these symptoms which may save your company time & potential liabilities.

WEST NILE VIRUS

Featured Speaker: Dr. Jerome Goddard; State Medical Entomologist for the Mississippi State Dept. of Health & Assistant Professor at The University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Medicine. Dr Goddard has authored many articles & books on medical diseases associated with insects.
Dr. Goddard will be discussing the recent events surrounding the West Nile Virus (an illness that mosquitoes spread to humans) and other medically important issues that effect our industry.

ANT ID CLASS Instructor: Dr. Laurel Hansen of Spokane Community College
Dr Hansen will guide you through the process of using keys and a microscope to identify ants. Ant specimens and reference material are provided for use during the class and to keep for future use.

ANNUAL ANT REVIEW

Featured Speaker: Dr. Laurel Hansen, Professor from Spokane Community College; Co Author of “Carpenter Ants of the United States and Canada” & our industry’s foremost authority on Carpenter Ants.
Dr. Hansen will be presenting an update on her research results on a variety of northwest ants. We can look forward to the presentation of her second book, which will be released this fall.

APRIL 9th, Thursday, 6:00-9:00PM @ UNIVAR
SPIDERS/MRSA

Featured Speaker: Dr. Rick Vetter of The University of California, Riverside
Dr. Vetter will be discussing the habits & biology of big ugly spiders & MRSA, "Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus"; a strain of staph bacteria that's resistant to the broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it.
